ANALYSIS

Understanding who we are at an early age can help us make far better life choices .

Einstein once said the defintion of insanity is doing the same thing over and expecting a different result. In 2023 Doctor Helen Taylor co authored the Richard Branson inspired book the dyslexic edge . The book begins with a thesis that rejects a deficit centric view . A view so aggressively advocated by academia for the last 50 to 100 years . That it it widely accepted, drowning out a more nuanced view .

Of course deficit do exist but this is not the whole story .Dr Taylor instead suggests a learning specialization theory based on a spectrum where humans exist on a exploiter and explorer curve . Where a trade off exists . Where the explorers by and large are over represented by the clinical populations and academia by the exploiters . As a society we are so immersed in this worldview . We are not unwilling but unable to see the true nature of the water we have been swimming in .

A special mention needs for Made By Dyslexia a charity who offer courses and training through the OU . Made By dyslexia is working hard to change perceptions and too their eternal credit regard success as removing the need for their very existence . As it should be .
